Terms and Conditions

Pricing

  • All transactions are processed in Australian Dollars (AUD) and include Goods and Services Tax (GST).
  • Delivery charges are additional. Delivery is handled by a third-party provider.
  • Online prices exclude freight, which is calculated at checkout.

Deposits and Payments

  • A minimum deposit of 50% is required on all orders. Production will not commence until the deposit is paid.
  • The remaining balance is due before delivery or upon collection of goods from the showroom.
  • All goods remain the property of Sofas Direct until full payment is received.
  • Online orders require full payment (including freight) at the time of order placement.
  • Delivery payment can be organised before delivery through Sofas Direct or upon delivery with our transport partner.
  • If a return is requested, the transaction must first be reviewed and approved by Sofas Direct. Upon approval, the product will become the property of Sofas Direct.

Quotations

  • Quotations are valid for fourteen days, subject to errors or omissions.
  • Prices are ex-factory or showroom. Additional freight charges may apply and may not always be included at the time of the quote.
  • To convert a quotation into an order, a 50% deposit is required. Please contact us via phone, email, or visit our showroom for more details.

Loaning of Samples

  • Customers may borrow fabric, leather, rug, and timber samples to assist with their purchasing decisions.
  • A current Australian driver's licence or state-issued identification card, along with a valid phone number, is required at the time of borrowing.
  • All samples must be returned within 1-3 days and in the same condition in which they were provided.
  • Charges will apply for lost, damaged, unreturned or incomplete sets. Customers are responsible for any loss, damage, or incomplete return of loaned items. In the event that a sample is lost, damaged or incomplete, Sofas Direct PTY LTD reserves the right to charge the customer for the full replacement value of the affected item or items.
  • All samples remain the property of Sofas Direct PTY LTD at all times.

Sales Orders

  • All sales orders are irrevocable and cancellation through no fault of Sofas Direct will result in the deposit being forfeited. Returns for change of mind are at the discretion of Sofas Direct and are subject to a 25% restocking fee.
  • "ETA" is quoted in good faith as an approximate guide to indicate when you are likely to receive delivery of your furniture. However, despite our greatest endeavour, delays caused by unforeseen circumstances beyond our control occasionally occur, for which we will not be liable for any compensation.
  • Customers are solely responsible to ensure that goods ordered will fit the intended space and that there is adequate access for delivery. Transportation costs for returned items are not covered.
  • Final payment of your Sales Order must be made within 14 days of receiving dispatch notification.
  • Dispatch will only occur after final payment is received. Storage fees may be charged on orders where delivery is postponed by the customer.

Design Specifications

  • DIMENSIONS ARE APPROXIMATE. All product specifications provided by Sofas Direct are intended as a guide only. Allow ±3–4cm tolerance for handcrafted goods.
  • Locally made products are handmade and may vary slightly from showroom samples or specification sheets. A variance of ±3–4cm in dimensions is considered normal.
  • Handmade rugs may have a size variation of up to 10 cm from the specified dimensions when the final product is received.
  • Fabric, leather, and timber stain samples are indicative only. Variations may occur due to dye-lot differences or natural variations in materials.
  • Sofas Direct reserves the right to alter product designs, dimensions, materials, construction methods, or pricing without prior notice. All modifications apply prospectively to future orders only. Products delivered under a confirmed sales order will be fulfilled in accordance with the specifications outlined therein. Sofas Direct does not guarantee that any product will remain identical in design or construction beyond the date of your confirmed order.

Design Modifications

  • Modifications to standard product specifications may be possible upon request.
  • Requests must be submitted in writing and approved by Sofas Direct.
  • Additional charges and extended lead times may apply.

Upholstery

  • Sofas Direct partners with leading fabric and leather suppliers to offer a wide selection of upholstery options.
  • Customers may provide their own fabric. Rolls must be clearly labelled with the order number and delivered to our showroom at 283 Burwood Road, Hawthorn VIC 3122.
  • Sofas Direct reserves the right to reject materials deemed unsuitable for specific designs.

Order Confirmation

  • Orders must be confirmed in writing and require a 50% deposit for processing.
  • Confirmation of your order implies acceptance of these Terms and Conditions.
  • Changes or amendments must be requested in writing within 24 hours of order confirmation.

Lead Times

  • Lead times vary based on order complexity, material availability, and demand.
  • An Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA) will be provided as an approximation and may be subject to change.
  • While shorter lead times may be requested, they cannot be guaranteed.
  • Sofas Direct accepts no liability for delays in delivery from a third party provider.

Order Alterations

  • Alteration requests must be submitted in writing and are subject to approval.
  • Sofas Direct does not guarantee that alterations can be accommodated.
  • Approved alterations may incur additional charges.

Refunds, Exchanges, and Returns

  • No refunds, exchanges, or credits will be issued unless the goods are faulty.
  • Custom, sale, “as is,” floor stock, or display items are non-refundable and cannot be exchanged.
  • Faulty goods claims must be made within 14 days of purchase or receipt.

Floor Stock Orders

  • Items purchased as “sale,” “as is,” “floor stock,” or “display” are sold in their current condition.
  • These items may display marks, dents, or signs of wear, and are priced accordingly.

Order Cancellation

  • Orders for which no deposit has been received may be cancelled at any time without notice by either party.
  • Once a deposit has been paid and production is underway, any cancellation request must be submitted in writing. A cancellation (deposit) and restocking fee of 25% of the total purchase price may apply.
  • The minimum cancellation fee is 50% (the deposit amount).
  • Custom orders canceled after production is complete will incur a 100% cancellation fee.

Deliveries

  • Delivery times are estimated at the time of sale, based on current lead times.
  • Once your order is ready, we will notify you to arrange final payment. After payment is received, the delivery company will contact you to schedule the delivery.
  • Customers are responsible for being onsite to receive, inspect, and sign for their delivery.
  • Report any damages or missing items within 24 hours of delivery. Issues raised after this period will be treated as warranty claims, and freight charges may apply.
  • Delivery failures due to access limitations are the responsibility of the purchaser and may incur additional fees for re-delivery, storage, and return.

Delivery charges:

  • Metro Melbourne delivery rates are estimated for standard ground floor deliveries, including placement. Additional charges may apply for deliveries of four or more items, stairs, restricted access, rubbish removal, or any unforeseen on-site variables identified at the time of delivery.
  • Regional/Remote Areas: Longer transit times and additional charges may apply.
  • Standard delivery charges may be paid in advance directly with Sofas Direct, or settled on the day of delivery to the driver. Any additional charges arising at the time of delivery — including but not limited to stairs, restricted access, or other unforeseen circumstances — are payable directly to the driver on the day. These are additional charges to the standard delivery fee.

Warranty

  • Sofas Direct offers a 10-year manufacturer’s warranty on all furniture handmade in Melbourne.
  • The warranty covers structural integrity and defects in materials or workmanship.

Exclusions:

  • Removable legs and corner blocks, as damage in these areas often results from improper handling.
  • Normal wear and tear, upholstery issues (covered by fabric/leather suppliers), and misuse or neglect.
  • Regular cleaning and maintenance are required to ensure the longevity of your furniture.
  • Feather and feather-blend products require regular maintenance in accordance with the care instructions provided. Loss of loft or shape resulting from insufficient maintenance is considered normal wear and tear and does not constitute a manufacturing defect. Returns or exchanges will not be accepted on this basis.
